FAQ
Questions we get from foreign founders in Japan.
If yours is not here, ask us directly — we reply within one business day.
Are your calls really handled in keigo (formal honorific Japanese)?
Yes. Every operator on our team is a native Japanese speaker with prior corporate or hospitality experience and is required to use sonkeigo and kenjougo on business calls. We tier the formality to the counterpart — a city office demands different language than a young restaurant owner.
How does this differ from a generic offshore VA?
Generic offshore VAs cannot legally place a Japanese phone call on your behalf in fluent keigo, cannot read a notice from the tax office, and cannot call a ward office to resolve a complex issue for you. We can. Our entire pricing model assumes Japan-based, senior bilingual operators — not a 50-cents-per-hour overseas template.
Can you replace a full-time Japanese assistant?
For most foreign SMEs and small foreign-affiliated (gaishikei) back-offices: yes, at a fraction of the cost. A full-time Japanese assistant in Japan runs ¥350,000+ /month with benefits. Our Standard retainer covers most of that workload at roughly an eighth of the cost.
How do you handle confidentiality?
NDA on day one, encrypted document handling, APPI-aligned data practices, and a single point of contact who never discusses your business externally. We also run on minimum-data principles: we ask for what we need and nothing more.
What time zone do you cover?
We operate 24/7 depending on virtual assistant availability. This allows us to support you across any time zone, whether you need morning coverage in the US, afternoon support in Europe, or round-the-clock coordination in Japan.
Do retainer hours roll over?
Starter and Standard plans roll unused hours forward by one month. Beyond that, hours expire to keep the relationship financially predictable.
Do you offer trial projects?
Yes. We are happy to take on a single difficult call, translation, or scheduling project at our hourly rate so you can see how we work before committing to a retainer.
Can you sign a written agreement in Japanese?
Yes. Our standard contract is provided in both English and Japanese. We can also work under your existing NDA or master services agreement.
